From the psychological care service of Alcer Castalia we comprehensively address the problems derived from Chronic Kidney Failure in any of its phases: diagnosis, follow-up, ACKD, dialysis and transplant. The main objective we pursue with this service is to improve the quality of life and adaptation, both of the patient and the members of their environment. To do this, it is necessary to preserve and increase the quality of life of patients and loved ones through adequate emotional adjustment to the changes that the disease produces in all areas of life. For this, it is very important that both patients and loved ones have a space for emotional expression to develop a new relationship with the new circumstances.

Psychological intervention focuses on the following aspects:

  • Presentation of the psychology service, so that the patient is aware of the resources available to them </ li>.
  • Assist psychologically the people close to the kidney patient, since the chronic disease means emotional exhaustion for all of them.
  • Offer a space for reflection and emotional ventilation in order to cushion the stress that Chronic Kidney Failure entails in people who suffer from it and those around them.
  • Enable changes in attitude and behavior towards the disease and its treatment.
  • Integrate and normalize the conditions that dialysis may entail.
  • Increase self-esteem and confidence in one’s own personal resources. Involve patients in the global evolution of their health, promoting their own responsibility in the vital process.

Psychological care can be provided in person at the ALCER Castalia headquarters, but also by telephone and telematics. The Psychology service team also travels to dialysis centers and the General Hospital to be more accessible to patients, especially those newly admitted.

Childhood-Adult Transaction Consultation

No. total patients treated: 21

In collaboration with H. GENERAL de Castellón both the psychology and nutrition services periodically serve adolescents in the Transition Consultation service. This program consists of creating a bridge between the pediatric nephrologist and the adult nephrologist to facilitate the transition to the latter.
As a result of our experience, we have participated in the development of a transition protocol together with FEDEN Alcer, which you can download below.
